Archive Drop: Flux Hound — Demolished Man Pulp Covers

In 2016, Melbourne dark-jazz outfit Flux Hound released Demolished Man (VVR002) inspired by Alfred Bester’s 1953 novel of the same name. The album tightens rhythms into paranoid, unpleasant climaxes.

Band member Zachery Bryan created a limited track-by-track set of pulp-style covers to accompany the record. The series follows Grease McDougall after he finds a scrap of paper bearing a moving diagram, and everything starts to slip.

1: Black Diagram LISTEN
Grease McDougall opens a piece of paper in a dead man’s basement, finding a diagram in motion. Every flicker of the pattern drags him deeper into his own noise.

7: Soft Apocrypha LISTEN

2: Afterafter LISTEN

Grease McDougall descends into an underground city erased from record. Hallways tangle, doors multiply, coffins wait. A note on the lid of a flimsy pine box bears a message for him.

8: Flesh Tuning LISTEN
Grease McDougall is circled by white coats who claim his mind must be harvested. Upon his escape, he realizes the laboratory to be a human modification centre where only perfection survives.

11: My Kingdom For A Lick Of Raven LISTEN
Destroyed, Grease McDougall stumbles upon a silhouette outside a whorehouse. Aroused, he begs her for just one lick of her thigh, only to find she bears the one truth Grease has always been afraid of.

Breaking into a laboratory, Grease McDougall awakens an all-knowing machine. Something within the circuitry desires a companion. Our hero runs, but the machine follows.

6: Demolished Man LISTEN
Realizing his mind’s collapse, Grease McDougall is pushed deeper into the city. Voices in his head close ranks and, amid his demolition, the truth about himself hits hard.

Grease McDougall escapes only to discover a busker screaming as vines drag his keyboard into the thicket. The plant changes course and attacks our hero, lusting after his demise.
